Looking for the getaway of a lifetime? Look no further than Cotton Tree Lodge, the hotspot for eco tourism in Belize. Here you’ll experience all the culture, warmth, and beauty that southern Belize has to offer. At our Belize eco lodge, you are right in the heart of the jungle, situated on 100 acres along the Moho River and at the base of the Maya Mountains.
You may be wondering, “What part of Belize is the best?” Once you’ve experienced the sheer variety of activities in our part of the country—the rainforests, rivers, reefs, and ruins—we’re sure you’ll say it’s ours. Immerse yourself in local life, forge new relationships, and learn more about ancient Maya’s history and culture. You’re in for a little slice of paradise.
Remote Getaway
For eco tourism, Belize’s Cotton Tree Lodge is the gold standard. From our housing accommodations and remote landscape to our organic food options, it’s a win-win-win all around.
Eco Tourism
Lush jungles, colorful flowers, large bodies of water—our corner of Belize is positively brimming with natural life. You’ll see (and certainly hear) parrots, howler monkeys, and other local species. You won’t just pull off the interstate and find yourself at our eco resort—we’re five miles deep in the jungle. In other words, we’re a remote, intimate jungle lodge right in the heart of the Belize ecosystem.
Housing
Here at Cotton Tree Lodge, we offer ten standalone jungle cabanas in the traditional Mayan style, made of natural hardwoods and thatched roofs. And that’s not all—we also have five hotel room-style rooms in the garden vista building. Above all, we’re committed to environmentally-friendly practices, from our solar-powered lodging to our filtered water collection system. Whether you’re in search of a honeymoon cabana, a family suite, or something else, Cotton Tree Lodge is more than happy to accommodate.
Locally Sourced Food
Food is the pride and joy of our Belize eco lodge. We maintain a small organic farm on-site and prepare fresh, healthy, and delicious meals each day for our honored guests. If papayas and starfruit ripe from the tree or cherry tomatoes and cucumber fresh from the garden make your mouth water, this resort is the one for you.
Local Activities
What would Belize eco tourism be without plenty of activities to keep you busy? Explore our numerous eco lodge activities below, and keep browsing our site for dozens of more options.
Hiking
If gorgeous scenic views and rapidly-ascending jungle hills check all your boxes, we recommend a hiking excursion during your stay in Belize. Book a Ja’wa Hill mountain hike for a view of the village of San Felipe, or take a guided morning bird walk on the resort property. For those up for a bit of a challenge, we suggest the Tiger Cave exploration, a hike through limestone caverns that leads to a secret swimming hole.
World Class Fishing
We’re not exaggerating when we say that Belize is an angler’s paradise. Balmy weather, knowledgeable guides, and an abundance of fish make Belize a world-class fishing destination. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, prefer inland rivers or shallow coastal flats, we’ve got you covered. Not to mention that over 40% of Belize has been set aside as protected marine reserves and wildlife sanctuaries. In other words, eco tourism and fishing near Cotton Tree Lodge are as idyllic as it comes.
Snorkeling
Have you always wanted to snorkel in a coral reef? Now you can do so at Snake Caye. We’ll take a boat out to the reef and enjoy lunch on the sandy island beach. Get ready to experience eco sea life up close and in person like never before.
Kayaking
If you’d like to spend some time on the water but would prefer to stay dry, the Jordan Kayaking Adventure may be just the activity for you. We’ll drop you off in the Jordan Village at the foothills of the Mayan Mountains for kayaking on cool blue waters bordered by lush green trees.
Organic Farm Tours
We mentioned previously that our Belize eco lodge is home to an organic farm and garden with all-natural, environmentally-friendly practices. Come explore the farm and garden in question to see the vegetables, herbs, and fruits growing there. And if you want to see one of the largest black pepper and spice farms in the country, we suggest the Nim Li Punit and Belize Spice farm tour. For those of you with a craving for chocolate, the IxCacao chocolate farm tour is both a historical journey and the chance to sample some delicious treats.
Off-Site Excursions
Cotton Tree Lodge is proud to offer plenty of off-site excursions for those who want to see even more of Belize. Our eco tours include shuttle service and guides when needed. Examples of off-site travel include tortilla making in the Santa Ana Village, Creole drumming in Punta Gorda, and the picturesque Rio Blanco Waterfall National Park. The natural beauty of Belize is on full display during these excursions, which last anywhere from 3 to 7 hours.
Our Commitment to Conservation and Local Support
We’d also like our customers and potential customers to know that everything we do is rooted in conservation and supporting our local community. How does that look? Well, some of our efforts include:
- Growing our own vegetables in an organic garden and using the 500 fruit-bearing trees on our property
- Solar power conversions (currently, we’re on our way to a full conversion)
- Collecting rainwater to use as drinking water
- Pumping river water to our garden early enough in the day that we don’t lose water to evaporation
- Strong encouragement of catch and release fishing practices
- Working with local villages to provide authentic tours and ensuring money goes directly to these locals rather than a middle man
- Hiring local Belizeans
- Supporting local vendors via our gift shop inventory
- Purchasing dairy products from local Mennonite farmers and additional produce from other locals
- Working with local marine preserve and supporting them financially via our fishing and snorkeling tours
