Crafted from local hardwoods and thatched in traditional Mayan style, Cotton Tree Lodge gives guests a chance to experience an authentic jungle lodge. Here you will have the opportunity to listen to Howler Monkeys and parrots-all from the comfort of a hammock. No sirens, no sounds of traffic, no loud music blaring from just down the street. Just the jungle. And the monkeys, and birds-and don’t forget the iguanas! Located 5 miles from the nearest paved road. Nestled in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. Set next to the slow moving Moho River. This is where you can unwind.
We have no televisions at the resort. There are no radios in the cabanas. In fact, there aren’t many clocks on the property. Limited cell phone coverage (only in the main lodge) and no wifi in the rooms. If you are someone that always needs to be plugged in, we probably aren’t your best choice. But if you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all and just relax in the jungle and enjoy a Belizean Adventure-we might be just what you are looking for. An authentic jungle lodge.
Jungle Resort Activities
Looking for an adventure straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster on your Belize jungle retreat? We’ve got you covered. Whether you’re traveling alone or with a group, there’s an activity for everyone at our jungle hotel. Here we’ll explore just a few of the many jungle lodge activities we have to offer. From sports to sightseeing, you’ll never be bored.
Sunset River Cruise
Remember the slow-moving Moho River we mentioned earlier? Our sunset river cruise will take you right out onto it, just as the sun is fading and the colors are at their most vibrant. You’ll hear and see monkeys, parrots, and toucans deep within the jungle—and some may even swing by to say hello. Kick back, relax, and enjoy a rum and punch beverage on this engaging jungle tour.
Jungle Survival Tour
You read that right. This onsite tour is incredibly popular, and with good reason. Led by Armando, a local expert, you’ll hike deep into Belize’s jungles and learn how to find food and water, and even build a shelter. And wait until you hear this: Armando knows where the Howler monkeys usually hang out and will most certainly take you past them.
Caribbean Fishing
Did you know that Belize ranks as a world-class fishing destination? From barracuda and mackerel to snapper and various jacks, Belize’s fishing is diverse and abundant. If you’re something of a fishing newbie, never fear; a local professional fishing guide will be there to help. If you’d prefer spin casting or fly fishing, we’ve got those options available, too.
Chocolate Tour
When you think of jungle lodges in Belize, we bet “chocolate” isn’t the first word that springs to mind. Well, surprise, surprise—Belize is a hotspot for world-renowned IxCacao chocolate! You’ll tour this chocolate factory and learn about how chocolate became such a hot commodity in the middle of the jungle, of all places. And rest assured, you’ll have time to sample plenty of IxCacao’s sweet treats in addition to the lunch that comes with the tour.
Birdwatching
If you’d prefer to stay close to the Belize jungle hotel, you’re in luck. Our guided, early-morning bird walk sticks to the property as an experienced guide answers your questions about local birds. If we’ve done our job right, by the end of the tour, you’ll know your scarlet macaws from your vermilion flycatchers.
Maya Culture
No Belize jungle and beach package is complete without immersing yourself in true Maya culture. On our Living Maya Culture Experience tour, you’ll travel to the village of Big Falls and visit a traditional Mayan family. There, you’ll learn all about their cooking, music, craft-making techniques, and much more. This is your opportunity to ask questions and experience far more than the average tourist.
Waterfalls
Have you always wanted to swim beneath a waterfall? Well, now you can on our Lubaantun and Rio Blanco Waterfall Tour. A guide will show you around the ancient ruin site of Lubaantun, a pre-Columbian Mayan city. From there, you’ll explore the waterfalls of Rio Blanco National Park. Bring your swimsuit—and if you’re feeling adventurous, take a leap off the waterfall’s edge and into the rushing waves below. Talk about literally jumping deep into Mayan culture!
